Immediate Rule Change for Swimming

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (August 11, 2009) - High-tech swimsuits that have been linked to record performances at all levels of competition the past couple of years have been banned for high school competition, effective immediately.

The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Swimming and Diving Rules Committee approved changes to Rule 3-2-2 that will make the high-tech swimsuit no longer a legal suit for swimmers at the high school level. The committee's recommendations were subsequently approved by the NFHS Board of Directors.

2010 Track and Field Rule Changes

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (July 7, 2009) - Beginning next track and field season, officials no longer will need to interpret the intent of hurdlers who knock over a hurdle by foot during the race. The competitor must attempt to clear the hurdle, but will not be faulted for knocking over the hurdle with his or her foot.

Track and Field Rule Changes: 2009

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (July 1, 2008) - Beginning next track and field season, pole vaulters once again will be charged with a foul if their feet leave the ground in an attempt to clear the crossbar but are unsuccessful. However, an exception was adopted to permit the vaulter to leave the ground and return when stopping an approach.

Summer Meeting: 2008

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (July 1, 2008) - The 26th annual induction ceremony of the National High School Hall of Fame and discussion of several key issues affecting high school sports and activities highlight the agenda at the 89th annual National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Summer Meeting July 3-7 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Washington, D.C.

Approximately 800 individuals are expected to attend the Summer Meeting, mostly staff members and board members from the 50 NFHS member state associations and the District of Columbia.
